| Opportunities focus on international postsecondary education and global opportunities
for educational faculty and student collaboration.
The IIE manages programs, scholarships, and training for students, educators, and
professionals from around the world, as well as provides policy research and resources
for international exchange opportunities.
| This fellowship is available to those Ph.D. students who have advanced to candidacy
and are seeking funding for dissertation research in Latin America and the Caribbean
on grassroots development issues. Funding will not be supported for clinical research
in the health field.

| NIH grant applications for cooperative agreements to establish regional research
hubs to increase the evidence base for mental health interventions in World Bank designated
low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). Each regional hub is to conduct research
and provide capacity-building opportunities in one of six geographical regions (i.e.,East
Asia and the Pacific; Europe and Central Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; Middle
East and North Africa; South Asia; Sub-Saharan Africa). As a group, awardee hubs will
constitute a collaborative network for mental health research in LMICs with capabilities
for answering research questions (within and across regions) aimed at improving mental
health outcomes for men, women, and children.
The Fogarty International Center advances the "mission of the NIH by supporting and
facilitating global health research conducted by U.S. and international investigators,
building partnerships between health research institutions in the US and abroad, and
training..."
| These programs offer undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to study
abroad and learn languages in regions critical to U.S. interests. These are often
used as stepping-stones to future U.S. civil service positions.
U.S. Department of State
The U.S. Department of State sponsors competitive students and faculty fellowships
and student scholarships focused on U.S. policy and interests abroad.
| Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) institutes provide fully-funded group-based
intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for
seven to ten weeks for U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master's and Ph.D. students.
| Franklin Fellows work on global issues of vital importance to the United States,
such as the environment; counterterrorism; human rights; consular matters; international
development assistance; HIV/AIDS and other trans-national diseases; trade, energy
and financial policy; and many others.
| Fellows serve for one year at the U.S. Department of State of USAID as science
and technology advisors on foreign policy issues. It is open to scientists and engineers
who are tenured faculty from U.S. institutions of higher learning.
USAID programs focus on: agriculture and food security; democracy, human rights and
governance; economic growth and trade; education; environmental and global climate
change; frontiers development; gender equality and women's empowerment; global health;
science, technology and innovation; water and sanitation; and working in crises and
conflict.
Higher Education for Development (HED)
HED's innovative, higher education-based partnerships target development challenges worldwide.
Each partnership links a higher education institution in the United States with another
institution in a host country. Ultimate funding comes from USAID.
